PRD Queen Runner up: Tammy Paul
When I was asked to write my story, I wasn't sure what to write. You see I have been a TOPS member on and off since I was nine years old. My Mom signed me up as an overweight nine year and I stayed on as a teen and into adulthood. So over the years I have lost and gained hundreds of pounds. I won awards in each Division and am very proud of it. Of course not as proud as my Mom is. So I would just like to add a small bit in about my Mom. What a lot of you don't know is my Mom used to weigh over 800 pounds and lost over half before joining TOPS because she didn't want to big the biggest person in TOPS. I'm so very proud of her as she still loses weight and the 400 pounds she did lose, I truly believe she should be standing up here with me. I love you Mom. I know you'll get there.
For my story, it is the same as for all of us. My weight has been and will always be a problem in my life. But when my doctor weighed me in at 352 pounds I couldn't believe I weighed that much. And then he told me that my body was slowly shutting down and gave me five years to live. I knew it was lose the weight or lose my life. The choice was simple. At that time I had just gotten married and had three very young children and two with disabilities. I already had diabetes, stomach ulcers, back and knee problems, sleeping disorders and the list goes on. Adding death to the list was just not acceptable. I made a choice that my husband, children and family were too important to me and they are the reason I lost my weight and want to keep it off. My husband Scott, has of course been my biggest supporter. Sticking right by my side, through all my health problems, all my up and downs.
Even talking me through it when I felt sorry for myself because I couldn't eat what I wanted. Without his support I don't think I would be here today. Thank-You Scott, for this I love you.
It’s been a very hard struggle and being at my goal of 160 is even harder to keep. I have done everything to lose weight. All my tops friends know what I'm talking about. It comes down to wanting it and having the support behind you to help you along. Tops and the people that support me is why I'm successful. Supporting me if I lost or gained, listening to all my complaints if I got stuck, wiping my tears and pushing me forward. So you see all my success goes to the people that have supported me. So thank you to all, my grandmother who has now passed, my mother and my good friend Beryl Edwards. With out them I would have failed. Also thank you to all my Tops friends through out the years I'm proud to be sharing this moment with all of you. I’d also like to add I have been in Tops many years and there are members that have been right along side me watching me grow up. So, to every Kop member, good for you, you are my Heroes. I guess I should have had a Wonder woman as my child hood hero. But mine always was Terry Williams, past Coordintaor. The sweetest, caring, adorable woman I ever meant. She has been an inspiration to me for 26 years. I finally got to goal weight last year just before she retired. Today’s honour I'm sharing with Terry, my Mom, my Husband and every Tops and Kops member out there, because losing weight is very hard and we all deserve an award. Tammy Paul with 182.50 lbs. lost from TOPS #ON1092, Stratford
