I’ve been a member of TOPS since June 1987. I’ve lost a lot of weight over the years. The only
problem was I always found it again, and then some that I hadn’t even lost! During the summer of 2006,
I started to lose again, but never really thought it would amount to anything. I figured it would be just
like before.
Lose some - then gain it back. But for some reason, I did continue to lose, and I’m darn glad I did.
I decided to take it one day at a time and see how far I’d get. Never in my wildest dreams did I think
I would get this far! I’d say it’s been hard, but when I think about it, it really hasn’t been difficult.
Food wise, I haven’t given up anything. I am however, for the most part, making wiser choices.
I like my “treats”, but I don’t eat the quantities I did before, and also not on a daily basis. I do still slip
sometimes, and I know I always will, but I don’t beat myself up about it. I just put it behind me, and move
on. I’ve gone from being a complete couch potato, to someone who actually really enjoys exercising.
I remember when I first started exercising regularly, it was “how much longer”?
And “Thank goodness I’m done”.
Today, exercise is a part of my daily life. Whether I’m doing weights, water-fit, walking, jogging, or
whatever – I just love the way it makes me feel – healthy and strong. I’ll walk for miles now, and think
nothing of it. Not too bad for a couch potato!
Sometimes it’s the little things that tend to make me realize how far I’ve come. From having to wedge
myself into a booth seat at a restaurant – to being able to just slip in and out, and having room between
me and the table while eating. From having to make sure the steering wheel is all the way up, and the
seat moved all the way back, before getting into our vehicle, and it still being a tight squeeze – to just
being able to get in and drive away. I can now sit and cross my legs – something I could never do before.
And from driving around the block, however many times it took, to get a parking spot right in front of
wherever I was going – to just parking down the street or around the corner and walking back.
Thanks to my family and TOPS friends for all the support over the years. I’m not sure what it is that
finally “clicks” for anyone, myself included, to lose the weight. But you will know when it’s your time.
And how will you know? Well, you’ll just be doing it. And trust me, it is worth it. I feel fantastic, and
wouldn’t trade it for anything!
